What Is Scrip?
Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase scrip, you’re purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for our organization.

How scrip generates revenue for you
The Great Lakes Scrip Center acts on behalf of churches, schools and other non profit organizations to purchase large amounts of scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Our organization buys the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families like yours for full face value. The discount from two to fifteen percent or more – is our organization’s revenue.
Scrip is "shopping cart fundraising”
Scrip is a popular fundraiser because families don’t have to sell anything. Organization members produce revenue by making regular household purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with scrip.

Dear Members of Faith Community Christian Reformed Church:
We’re pleased to share some exciting news about a fundraising program for our church. It’s called “Scrip”, and it’s the fundraising program that works while you shop.
Scrip is simply a word that means “substitute money” – in other words, scrip is gift certificates from national and local retailers. They’re the same gift certificates that you buy at the store. Many popular retailers participate in our scrip program including Kohl’s, JCPenney, The Gap, Shell, Pizza Hut, Red Lobster, Herbergers, and many, many others!!
You’re probably asking yourself how these stores help us raise money. It’s simple – Scrip participating retailers agree to sell gift certificates to our organization at a discount. Member families like yours buy the certificates for full face value, they redeem them for full face value, and our organization keeps the difference as revenue. And scrip is exciting, because everybody wins:
• The retailer gets cash up front and repeat business…
• You get a powerful fundraising alternative that involves no selling…
• Our organization gets a regular source of revenue.
The beauty of scrip is that you put your regular household shopping dollars to work. You earn money for our organization without spending a single additional penny. Just spend your regular shopping dollars with scrip at the stores that participate in the scrip program! And scrip can be used for just about any household purchase including food, clothing, entertainment, gasoline and even dining out.
The Faith Community Christian Reformed Church program promises to be a simple and effective fundraising program. The money raised will be used for church special projects.
Scrip orders can be placed every Sunday beginning in a few weeks. We need full payment with each order, either cash or check. Your order will most likely be available to be picked up on the following Wednesday.
Thanks for your support!
